The Beginner/Refresher Programs introduce you to our 108-movement Tai Chi form through a clear, step-by-step approach. Each move is taught sequentially, with careful attention to proper stepping, turning, posture, and body alignment, ensuring you build a strong foundation from the very beginning.
Each class reviews the previously learned moves before introducing new material, then concludes by practicing the complete sequence learned so far. This proven method of repetition strengthens muscle memory, builds confidence, and allows each movement to become increasingly familiar and natural. Because each lesson builds upon the last, regular attendance is key to steady progress. Space permitting, the last day we will accept new students will be the 3rd class of the program.
By the end of the program, you’ll be able to confidently follow along and perform the Tai Chi set with a group. You’ll have the foundation needed to transition into our continuing class, where your practice will develop to be softer and more fluid - and where the physical, mental, and wellness benefits of this art compound.
Tai Chi is often described as a moving meditation where students find balance and relaxation, while improving body awareness, strength, flexibility, and mental/cognitive health.
We practice a modified Yang style, as developed by Taoist monk Moy Lin Shin, to maximize the health benefits from it gentle and effective movements.
